We Don’t Want You Here. Keep Your Ice at the North pole. It sounds suspiciously like the sort of slogan you might hear when borders, boats and immigration dominate the headlines. Only this time, the unwanted visitor isn’t a person. It’s a gigantic piece of ice. And unlike most immigrants, this one really is arriving because of climate change. The North Pole is losing its cool, and unfortunately for us, what happens in the Arctic doesn’t necessarily stay in the Arctic.
An Immigrant We Really Could Stop
We spend enormous amounts of energy discussing how to keep people on the either side of borders. Meanwhile, nature is quietly preparing a migration of its own. Ice becomes water, oceans rise, and suddenly the border moves towards us. No passport checks, no fences, no asylum procedures. Just billions of litres of water with absolutely no respect for national sovereignty. Particularly inconvenient when you live in a country where much of the landscape already considers sea level an ambitious target.
The Joke May Be on Us
That’s the Poeha twist. “Keep Your Ice at the North Pole” sounds hostile, territorial and wonderfully simple. But perhaps the real message should be directed at ourselves. If we genuinely want Arctic ice to stay where it belongs, shouting at the iceberg won’t achieve much. What happens thousands of kilometres away eventually washes up on our own doorstep. So wear the shirt, enjoy the double meaning, start a discussion—and remember: some borders are easier to defend before they melt.
