I Me Mine

The Story

I Me Mine

The Beatles record I Me Mine is all about selfishness. Writer George Harrison was fed up with the Beatles, and with the world around him. The spirit of the Summer of Love of 1967 was long gone and the atmosphere was violenced up with the Vietnam war, the riots of 1968 and above all the despair of all the young people who realized that in the end the song remains the same:

All I can hear
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
Even those tears
I me mine, I me mine, I me mine
No-one’s frightened of playing it
Ev’ryone’s saying it
Flowing more freely than wine
All through’ the day I me mine

Although George was the more silent Beatle and the spirit of the group, in this song on their last released album, he was not that positive as he learned to be from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India. His autobiography was having the same title, published just 3 Months before the death of John Lennon, who supposedly was not too well pleased with it. He thought he was not mentioned enough in it. It could not bother George too much. After all, it is all about I Me Mine!
